So, after explaining my first thoughts on the piece by @mrblinddraw I searched through the archives for pictures I wanted to use.
What I collected
What I found were quite a few cool graphical photos: skies, textures of plants, architecture, clouds, sand... I cut out a few in the same shape, long triangles, as I saw in @mrblinddraw to see how it worked out on a canvas. But what canvas to use?
Canvas of Whisper GALLERY II
I decided to go back to the photoshop work file of Whisper GALLERY II and see what I could re-use. I already mentioned I might re-use some graphical elements, especially the black and white 'pathway' (which is actually a picture from a ceiling). I decided to use the same paper texture (canvas), the square (but now in a transparent black instead of solid red) and the pathway (but now straight instead of curved.)
Placing and adding the pieces
While playing with the basic canvas and adding a few triangles I missed a few elements that would make this piece come alive. Although I could be totally content with 'just a graphical' composition I just didn't feel it this time. I remembered an old cut-out I made a while ago from the Manhattan skyline I photographed from Queens/Brooklyn. I added it, and started to see the piece come alive a bit more.
I then realized I would love to make this piece about traveling, stories we share, pictures we take. I reshuffled my pieces and removed a few, only leaving those that are classical travel pictures: a palm tree in a botanical garden, a sunset, a stack of wood I shot outside of Prague... I removed a few pieces I simply didn't like for their colours in the composition. And left a lot of white space like the piece created by @mrblinddraw - whitespaces are meant to fill in with your mind. As a finishing touch I cut out a photo in which a woman takes a picture with her phone - adding to the story of the piece.
So which travel memories would you love to add to this piece?
The END RESULT
I'm happy with the end result, and love how it's overlapping in parts with my previous piece for the Whisper project. I truly am fascinated by how I think in my mind something will happen and it turns out differently just because 'once you see it' it connects with different ideas and memories and shapes and wishes for colours... Creating a sort of planned but also organic piece.
The GIF
As last time I wanted to create a GIF of the project. And luckily I did! Because right after saving all the individual JPGs of my work my computer decided to crash for the first and only time in 5 years... So I lost my working file, but I have the 'end files' at least, and they were fun to paste together so I could at least present you the GIF :-)
Thanks @mrblinddraw!
Honestly, this is one of the coolest art projects on the STEEM Blockchain - I love creating with other artists and see what everyone comes up with.
