Train adventures with extremes

The highlight of my train travel adventures will forever be the Trans-Mongolian one, from Moscow to Beijing, a trip of extremes and with a hint of real adventure - encountering smugglers onboard and a passport control at midnight done by armed personnel while your train carriage is hanging in the air because the wheels are being replaced for the more narrow train tracks in Mongolia.

Yes, it’s a fun and bizarre adventure.

Making a round trip through Slovakia is not this adventurous, this whole country feels very much laid back, but the trip is still triggering stories of faraway lands and romance in its own way. When arriving at this train station we almost missed it. Yes, the train stopped, but we didn’t see the station itself, only trees and hills and rocks - we barely got out of the train on time. Once outside I counted if everything was there: boyfriend, check, one and two backpacks, check, smaller bags, check, walking stick, check.

Now it’s time to leave again. From this tiny middle of nowhere station directly to Bratislava, where we’ll switch to a train to Vienna.

Indeed, the train station we’ll arrive at in about six hours will probably be harder to miss.
