The artists brain - it's ON

A suitcase full of dolls in a lovely town in Slovakia. I can almost feel the textures of every single thing, fabric, surface in this picture. It's a treasure.

I decided I wanted to create more again. Moving pixels is just not the same as - literally - getting your hands wet and dirty and make something out of it.

Creating is nourishing, it's inspiring, it's therapeutical, it's mindful, it's magical.

And it's tangible.

People like tangible.

I went with my artist friend to a wool shop and bought all the colours of Wool Roven I could find - as I decided I'm going to start learning the wet felting technique. Fabrics, colours and patterns, how they feel, look and even move in the wind, are a great passion of mine.

I could learn to knit but I hate doing anything where one minor mistake screws up the whole piece and I have no patience for unraveling the last 20 centimeters of any project I made only to redo it again. I love doing things where I can follow instinct and add or subtract and create as I go.

So wet felting, and especially felting with both wool and silk, is the way I want to go. You literally create from loose sheep fibers that are combed flat pieces of fabric, making scarves, clothing or wall art. 3D felting is another possibility, where you shape all these loose fibers into for example shoes or mittens or hats and vases.

Now, for those who have no idea what I'm talking about will have to wait as I have not created anything yet, just buying stuff and looking at endless pictures on Pinterest and Instagram and learning from looking.

The artists brain

The artists brain is working overtime. My way of 'working' is gather first, create later. So I first buy all the stuff that speak to me, watch tons of tutorials, and let it al stew in my mind. Once I get to work I don't look at images or tutorials again - I create from the mind, where hundreds of possibilities have shaped from collecting all this input.

That does have downside though. I feel shitty writing right now as I'm tired from being so inspired that I literally can't sleep. The brain is making scarves already. Even though all I have to show for it is a bag full of wool fibers.

One of the things I'm terribly good at is imagining. Even without having tons of experience I can imagine how something will look like once it has been transformed. I can see what fiber your clothes are made from too - even from a distance, just from the way the sun falls on it or the way it moves. I never studies anything fiber or textile related, but I like to touch and I like to see, and I can easily combine the two - a 'skill' I never knew was special until I got weird looks from people when I snubbed at yuk, polyester, in clothing stores from 2 meters distance without ever looking at the label.

The imagination goes on and on and on...

I lay in bed at night and I imagine a mustard yellow wool laid out on top of black chiffon silk and then decorated with black and white details and/or the orange/red exciting cotton knit I found in the shop at the last minute before paying.

It has been a while since my artist brain, the brain that is as wired as they come and makes my blood pump from excitement of what I could create, was this active. I see it as a good sign. I also see it as a sign Steem will suffer. I have been awful at curation and engaging the past few days. Let alone if I really start the creation process.

You guys will suffer from my artists brain. I hope to have something to show for it in a few days time though.

Please be patient.

And go create something tangible yourselves too.

Food. Food is another create way to make something from your hands.

Much love, and creativity, and food and scarves,

Rosa
