[Slice of HOME] Dutch roof tiles

When things become ordinary you stop seeing them. But when you visit new worlds you gain new perspectives, and the ordinary becomes interesting again.

I find the Dutch way of 'roofing' their houses gorgeous. They lay all these roof tiles over one another, leading rain straight to the pipes that will stop the rain from leaking through the roofs. The color of these roof tiles are brown to orange. Modern houses can have green or blackish ones too, but I love the original orange ones. They create a lovely color contrast to dark rainy and dramatic skies.

There are many countries using roof tiles, of course, but they don't ever look the same in other countries. If I find orange roof tiles in other countries they might be made from ceramics, and are sort of shiny. Or if they are not ceramic, they might be a dull grey or brown color.

Suddenly a thing so ordinary is apparently so unique.
