A slow process of deconstructing, rebuilding, finishing up has been happening on one of the subway stations I use relatively often: The Hague Central. A few years ago my boyfriend still lived in The Hague, plus I worked close to the station a few times a month. The remodeling of the train station and subway platforms started years ago.
Yesterday I arrived at this station after not visiting it for a few weeks. 'Suddenly' my subway car stopped at 2nd level instead of on the ground floor.
I took the automatic stairs down and felt almost disoriented. 'Suddenly' I walk through an interestingly designed tunnel, looking to buildings that were never visible before, and my normal walking route is rerouted completely.
The places we visit often can change over time. But we cancel out the process of change itself. After the changing is finished we just try to accept the new state as soon as possible, and go on with our lives.
But I guess if the above is true we're actually missing out on the most interesting part, the process of change itself.
