From Nijmegen the trips continues to Deventer, a perfect little city with perfect little streets with perfect little cuteness overlad on every damn corner.
It's also 'famous' for its Dickens Festival once a year, a quick search on the 'why' makes me believe that this was just a move by local merchants to attract visitors twice a year, not because of a special link to Dickens, but Deventer is indeed known as a 'book city', holding the largest book market in Europe each year.
The above and next three pictures were taken in one of the prettiest streets of the city, and show painted scenes with accompanying texts from books of Dickens.
The above three windows come from A Christmas Carol, showing the famous three ghosts of the past, present and future. I love that story and the movies that were made based on it, especially the 'The Muppet' one :-)
The above text comes from Little Dorrit, and it feels spectacularly stupid if I would translate this to English, as this was translated from the original English text, and I wouldn't want to horribly insult Dickens with my translations.
The next one comes from The Pickwick Papers, and shows a very detailed scene - notice the windows where you can see even more stuff happening outside on the town square?
All in all super cool to encounter these bok references in the middle of a 'normal' living street - the streets themselves already take you back in time a little, but together with these frames...
Do/did you read Dickens, and if yes, what's your favourite book?
