The visual memories I have of my travels are strongly tied to the colors I noticed while observing the place.
Where I might see a lot of orange/brown brick and roof tiles in the Netherlands, a few colors I remember when I think of places I've visited are:
- Pastel and beige and grey in Russia (no outspoken colors at all)
- Autumn colors on the countryside of Mongolia
- Very bright yellow (bushes) in Ireland
- Soft yellow and soft green in Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia
- Red everywhere in Beijing
- No color association in Belgium. Weird. Maybe grey.
- Bold and saturated colors from street art and ceramic tiles in Lisbon.
May I call Lisbon my favorite city now, color-wise?
The colors of Scotland
The colors I remember most of Scotland are a yellow-brown from the Moors and a very lovely purple from the heather that bloomed during our North-Coast 500 road trip.
Looking back at my pictures the main colors I identify are green from the grass that is growing in abundance throughout Scotland thanks to all the rain, and grey from, well, cloudy skies.
But my memory connects Scotland with 'purple'.
[Took a picture of a gorgeous view, turned back to get into the car, and was blown away by the purple heather wall that I hadn't even noticed before.]
[There is some purple in the stone wall, but I was mainly attracted by the yellow I recognize as the 'main color' of memories of Ireland. Awesome contrast with the purple though!]
Do you recognize connecting colors to certain memories, be it travel adventures or otherwise?
