This is a picture I would never be able to make outside of the Netherlands. A dike alongside the highway, two people bicycling on top of that dike, them overlooking water, me looking against the grass, gorgeous gorgeous light breaking through a very Dutch skyscape.
I'm ready to paint this and I'm not even a painter.
I took this photo while driving home after a few hours of taking pictures in one of our national parks. It's often while I'm 'done' taking pictures I make the picture that becomes my favourite of that day. It's also often the picture that isn't even sharp, a bit too dark, taken quick and dirty because my eye suddenly catches a subject but my camera was still in my bag, hurry hurry get it out and click!.
[Taken today, on the highway, at the end of the afternoon. The air was 'heiig' which is a Dutch word I don't really know the English translation of, it might translate to 'misty' but I feel like that is a different thing. It's a magical light for photography though. Every landscape suddenly changes in something paint-worthy.]
The picture I took today reminds me of a very pretty and emotional short movie: 'father and daughter' by Michael Dudok de Wit. It's a must see, the music, the biking on a dike, the wind! It feels so, SO authentically Dutch. If you watched the movie, please let me know what you thought of it!
