The biggest pleasure I get from creating these 'train windows series' is simply the editing part of it. I can push and pull on sliders in Lightroom I would otherwise not touch because they would create overly dramatic results. But the 'source material' of any 'train window shot is simply horrible. Unsharp, grainy, reflections, shadows of passengers, stickers on windows, no particular subject to focus on...
So when I start editing those source images I know: it can only get better! Well, isn't that the best thought if you start working on something, anything?
I think it is.
In todays 'dirty train window' shot I added colours that weren't there, pushed through some reflections that were barely visible, upped contrast and a bit of clarity, removed shadows otherwise the end result would end up too black, etcetera. Just a lot of sliding sliders and another dreamy memory of driving through the Scottish Highlands was created.
