As far as I know this house is empty. A real eye-catcher, one I drive past every week when I'm taking a tram to my strength training in the city. It's big, it has interesting shapes, I love the roof, I love the 'trapped' windows in one part of the house, and I have not passed by this house once without wondering what it is, who lived here, who is using it now. (If anyone is using it, which I strongly doubt.)

I've also been standing in line here once, for two hours. Around New Years Eve people gather for a food truck that sells 'Oliebollen' - a national specialty only devoured on New Years Eve (and well, maybe a few the weeks before ;-)) - and the guy who claims his spot in front of this house every year sells the best, according to a national test. So, on NYE, everyone wants these fresh Oliebollen and they are willing to queue for those for 2 hours. In the rain. Well, I did. Once. Now I get them one day before :-)

Another weird detail about this specific house is it has a 'street post museum' in front of it. People around this neighbourhood have on their own initiative collected several street posts from all over the place and 'planted' them here. There was a huge uproar at some point when the city government decided to remove the street posts because they were obstructing movement of people. The neighbourhood came together to claim their rights to get back the most quirky museum I've ever heard of. They 'won', although the street posts are now planted a bit more near the side of the pedestrian lane, instead of in the middle of it.

I was just editing this photo on my smartphone, as I often do after I scroll through my camera roll and believe I 'see' a shot that is valuable to me. It started as me wanting to post just a photograph because I don't have much time this week to write decent long-form posts. It ended with me wondering: what if I would grab a chair and sit and observe this house for a week, a month? How many stories would I be able to write exclusively about this house and its immediate surroundings? Because even without deliberate focus on this house, tiny stories already flowed from my brain on the screen, to share with you.

I might actually do some more research on this house and see if I can get in for a nice photo report. Watching people passing by the house from the inside. Maybe feel the presence of a ghost - this place seems perfect for making up Haunted House stories.
