[PHOTO ESSAY] Light switches and electricity outlets in an abandoned prison | Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest

Let's share the good news first: after some bad luck with laptops and stuff @customnature is back! And since @customnature is the organizer of my favourite contest on the STEEM Blockchain I'm very happy with this news :-)

This week's theme then is a bit more freestyle than some of the others, and I decided to post some shots of a very specific detail that would otherwise not have it's own theme or category in the contest.

This week's theme = Show & Tell! ANY abandoned subject, but tell us why you chose it. This one is a little different that usual. Basically, it's a "freestyle" week where entries can be anything abandoned - cars, houses, buildings, graves, etc, etc -BUT you must include a quick explanation of WHY you entered that particular subject. There are tons of abandoned things out there to choose, why did you go with the one you did? Check my example at the bottom of this post.

Light switches and electricity outlets

Light switches and electricity outlets are found in abandoned objects, but in a way are abandoned themselves as well. They were used, a lot, without people thinking about them, and then when the buildings are abandoned they suddenly get useless objects themselves as well.

I find this fascinating - how often do you think about your electricity sockets and light switches? Let me tell you when: when they don't work, when they are not in the location you need them, when you are on a holiday and your plugs need an adapter because the electricity sockets in the country you're in are different from the country you're coming from.

Since they are probably the most unnoticed abandoned objects in the world I'm adding them to this freestyle themed Abandoned Shit Weekly contest.

Prison electricity

I took this four pictures in a prison and it makes you wonder: how 'free' where the prisoners to use these? Did they have radios maybe? Shaving machines? A little lamp, probably, maybe, or are lights operated centrally?

Unseen art

Not placed in a straight line, painted on, some missing their covers - the normal units you expect to find in every building suddenly become compositions and works of 'art'.

This last picture I shot in what seemed to be a prison kitchen. I guess it's the place we always lack sockets, right? One for the mixer, one for the milk foam machine (At least, in my kitchen :D), one for the water cooker, one for that machine you only use once a month...

Do you have pictures of light switches and electricity sockets? Share them in the comments! Just for fun, it's such an ordinary object in most countries. Do you have pictures of 'Abandoned Shit' hop over to @customnature and share your own post to the contest! Have a great Sunday y'all!
