Yesterday's post showed an experimental 'lensbaby' smartphone picture. While underway to the forest at the borders of my city, we drove, by bus, past one of the iconic buildings of Rotterdam: Het Groothandelsgebouw.
Recently I worked with colleagues on a joined exhibition, and one of my colleagues made prints of the patterns of this building. Especially the windows are very recognizable for those who live in Rotterdam and have admired this building. Although his work was very abstract, I immediately recognized his work as this building.
Through the bus window, with the lens just clipped on my iPhone, I decided to do some test shots, and pointed towards the building.
I really like how this shot turned out, shot and edited on my iPhone. The second picture I'm sharing I like even more. The colours, almost pastel, are making it even easier to recognize the unique 'Groothandelsgebouw' brand.
It's funny how you can prepare for a shot and it just doesn't work out, while these unprepared test shots turn out to be quite lovely.
I'm looking forward to more iconic building photography in my city. From now on I'll take this cute little lens with me so I'll be prepared if I come across the many interesting buildings one can find in Rotterdam.
