Because I was a Photo Star in week 3 of season 2 of the @photogames (and therefore couldn't play) I am allowed to join in to 'make up game' where all Photo Stars can gather some extra points before the winners are decided!
The tasks:
- Submit a picture that you have personally taken which represents the theme “OLD”
- Take a new picture this week that represents the theme “NEW”
- Create a blog post that talks about the "FUTURE" of the @photogames and think of your audience as people who are interested in photography but may or may not know about @Photogames and Steemit.
TASK 1 & 2: something 'OLD' and something 'NEW'
For 'something new' I simply picked the newest / last taken image on my memory card. It was taken just 2 hours ago when I left the beach house of friends of mine where I celebrated a birthday. The sun was just setting and I always enjoy the golden hour light to emphasise detail I normally would overlook. In this case I noticed the blinds behind the window. Nothing crazy, just simply the newest picture I took that I can share with you.
[The newest picture I have on my memory card at the time of writing. Taken about 2 hours ago.]
For the 'Old' theme I decided to match that newest picture with a similar theme: windows, curtains, textures, but it would also have to be an old place, or a window from an old house. I found this in the following picture taken in an abandoned village in Belgium, definitely old, and it contains all the themes of the first picture as well.
[Old window, old curtain, interesting textures.]
FUTURE OF THE @PHOTOGAMES
So, for those among my readers who are interested in photography but don't know about or haven't played the @photogames yet, this is what I see happening for the future of the @photogames:
Growth versus visibility
As Steemit will keep on growing, especially after the 'soon to be introduced' new features (like automated sign-up) and Hivemind (including communities), the pool of photographers will become more diluted by the minute. We will see more and more photographers ditch their 'old' social media accounts where they don't have full control over their content and accounts get closed down for no reason. Your visibility as a photographer on Steemit will decline and the feeling you're drowning within this huge pool of (also talented) image makers will grow.
Become a member of a community
The good news is: after we get the Hivemind/Communities feature it will become possible to maintain a community outside of Discord. @photogames will be one of those communities within Steemit.
Communities will make it easier to become a 'known person' (photographer) within that community. You won't have to compete with the full influx of photographers, but you can (and should!) focus on one or a few sub-communities that do stuff you are interested in. It will be easier to network within a smaller community than with the whole of (photographers') Steemit.
The @photogames are a golden opportunity for you as a photographer to get your name known by one of those future communities.
Start now, enjoy later
Since users on Steemit are only slowly going to realise the potential of communities, it's a smart decision to already invest and become part of one or a few you think will still exist after the Communities feature will be implemented. You'll automatically be part of that community while other's are still trying to grasp the meaning of it all and the way it works, which to join, etcetera.
You'll be ahead of other photographers because we will know your name already @photogames. You'll be part of a community which you can always fall back to even after thousands and thousands of new photographers joined and have to fight their way in.
How?
Join by following @photogames and play their games! The games are fun to do and different games cater to photographers of different levels. There often are games for people who are not primarily photographers as well. Join us and join a community - before the communities feature is implemented on Steemit!
