I've never entered the @killerpix contest before even though I promised myself to try and keep up with it. But this week's theme is 'opposites' and immediately triggered a picture in my mind from my archives. So finally I decided to enter!
What and where
What we are seeing here is me lurking in a gigantic submarine warehouse that has been transformed to a temporary art space for a few months the past few years! I love museums and observing people looking at art. (By observing I mean: taking pictures of them :-)) This space is based in the harbour of my city Rotterdam and is an absolute joy to visit. You travel by 'water bus' (of course it's a boat, but they call it a bus) and can discover an interesting and innovative part of the city plus visit some amazing art, each year of different artists.
I loved the chance of taking a picture of an actual human next to the human shaped hole in the curtain. I've waited a long time and sort of hoped one of the visitors would stand in front of the 'hole' in the curtain so it would fill it up like a piece of a puzzle. But you only can wait so long and chances of this happening are very small.
Anyone who wants to be my permanent photo prop so I can always get the picture I want can apply in the comments ;-) (But be warned it's a tough job!)
OPPOSITES
My reasons for entering this picture:
- Empty silhouette versus actual human
- Man versus woman
- Walking versus standing still
- Right part displays a home with window and door, left side is (seemingly) empty space
Hopefully more cool themes will be announced! To all other photographers and Steemians: follow @killerwhale for more contests!
