Ever wondered where the term 'stupid sheep' came from? Well, without doing any factual research on the topic, I think I found out just by traveling the roads of Scotland.
Sheep act like this:
- Car approaches: Let's cross the road now!
- Car approaches: Let's run away from the car so it has to follow me, even though I could also easily get off the road!
- Car approaches: Let's stand still on the road while looking towards the car end see if the car is able to stop before it hits me!
Furthermore:
- Sheep seem to make a challenge of who can go from lying down to standing up the slowest.
- Sheep seem to like the middle of any road best for lying down.
- Sheep seem to want to eat the grass right off the road instead of walking a few meters into the grasslands where no cars can get close to them.
So, now you know. You're welcome.
[A very specific detail you might find while driving Scottish roads: old tires with a message to all drivers to slow down to protect lambs. Skillfully attached to a wooden pole. Probably overlooked by the time there are actual lambs instead of sheep crossing these roads again. Let's hope the new generation of lambs grows into smart sheep.]
