Looking up in Lisbon means: seeing a lot of clothes and towels hung to dry!
It's something that is probably unseen by the inhabitants of Lisbon themselves. There will probably even be many people reading my blog thinking: "But, hanging your clothes to dry out of your apartment is normal, right?"
[Like colored flags in the street :-)]
But it's something I'm not used to seeing in The Netherlands.
- In autumn and winter it rains many days. So clothes outside? Not a great idea!
- In summer we could hang them to dry outside. And there will be a lot of days without rain. (But it's certainly no guarantee!)
- If we hang our clothes outside it will be in our tiny back gardens, on a 'drying mill' (Dutch: droogmolen) as they are called.
These are the small differences between countries and cultures that brighten my days and make me love traveling so much.
How do you dry your clothes in your country?
[Taken from the bus in Lisbon. Some use a 'smart system' where you can slide your clothes in an easy way. Other have tied some ropes in a creative way. Works as well! :-)]
