# REPEATING THEMES AND SUBJECTS IN PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the main pleasures, for me, in photography is keeping at a subject for a while and exploring the many ways in which you can study one object. I believe beginner photographers should take to heart the following two exercises:
- Take 1 object (small, can be carried, like a pair of glasses, or large, is immovable, like a tree) and make 1 interesting picture of that object every week for a year
- Take 1 theme and find as many variations of that theme as possible, might be literal or abstract, create a diverse photo series on that theme
You'll train your brain to think in series and you'd probably be surprized to see the results you can get from sticking to basically 1 item or subject for a long long time.
REPEATEDLY VISITING THE SAME BRIDGE
A few years ago I always passed two bridges during a brisk walk I did a few times a week: the Willemsbrug in Rotterdam and the Erasmusbrug in Rotterdam. I love bridges and I loved how I could find them in a different light or state or moment of day and photograph them as a whole or only in part. Over the many walks I did crossing this bridge I took dozens of shots. In this post I show the ones that I found in the 'fossil' part of my photo collection, about which I wrote in this photo essay.
WILLEMSBRUG FACTS:
- Was finished in 1981
- Was named after King Willem III of The Netherlands
- Is bright red in colour (I'd have to go through my non-fossil archives to find a good example)
- It was build to replace an older bridge
- It's total span is 318 meters
In my next post I show the collection on the Erasmusbrug, which is more famous and often more loved.
