Celebrating 25k SPS Staked | Looking back on first third of the airdrop

Today was the day: I passed the 25k Staked SPS Milestone!

I noticed that this happened around the time that a little over a third of the SPS airdrop had passed. I was actually busy writing other posts for next week, but decided to do a little freewrite / looking back post first...

Start of the airdrop

Last summer, I was busy studying, preparing for a little holiday, I noticed many people talking about Splinterlands again.

Thanks to @peakmonsters I had my cards rented out through 'V1' of the rental market they offered back then, but since it wasn't easy to understand the rental market through that app I had left it alone on very low rental prices for months.

Vaguely I had noticed V2 becoming a thing, but well, time was scarce, people were ill, I was busy...

Finally I started reading, and I realized my cards were now being rewarded in SPS, the future Splinterlands Governance Token, all calculated from the cards I was holding and the DEC (which I received from the rental income) I was holding.

I realized I needed to look into that rental market ASAP! Updating the rentals through @peakmonsters rental market was a breeze, and from there on my Adrenaline was sky high.

Because: DEC income reached about 30-50$ a day (!) in the weeks after, and SPS thanks to more airdrop points rewarded for DEC holding as well...

Phase 2 of the airdrop

I started optimizing here and there, listening to @sjarvie5's tips on how to grow the rental income, reading @peakmonsters posts, checking @splintertalk's trending page, checking into an AMA here and there...

More and more info started coming out, amongst which the shocking announcement that the next Card Packs named Chaos Legion would be sold based on the vouchers you owned, based on the amount of SPS you had staked...

First I was appalled and thought this was just too much, another token for the same game? But I soon realized how popular the game had become (it was the same time that Splinterlands started growing serious daily player numbers and new accounts), and that vouchers were a nice way to make sure that cards wouldn't be sold out from day 1.

Reading the Mavericks Channel on the Splinterlands Discord I saw whale after whale expressing disappointment that vouchers would keep them from investing as much as they wanted - which is actually a good thing - in the end.

I calculated through splintercards.com I needed about 3000 more SPS staked to get the amount of vouchers I wanted, so I bought 3000 more SPS and staked them.

Vouchers & Packs

I collected my 100 (120) vouchers and bought packs recently. Now, these vouchers were going for a pretty sum on the markets, so I could've sold for HIVE and played a different game where I waited for general sale with my extra HIVE, but I decided to just 'play the game how Splinterlands had written it'... I never have regretted investing even 1$ in Splinterlands and have no doubt that everything I'm doing today with my investment will pay back in one way ore another.

So YES, on December 8th I will be opening 130+ packs (10% bonus packs were awarded in pre-sale) and I will probably buy a few more in 'round 2' and/or General Sale. Opening most of them, waiting for the insanely cool airdrops I'm now eligible to, and maybe buying a few packs to keep unopened as unopened packs have historically become a pretty goldmine after only a few months of sale ending.

Another two-thirds of SPS airdrop coming?

It's crazy, but this airdrop will be here for another few months. My airdrop points have only been growing, maybe people unstaked some SPS so my share was able to grow compared to others - I'm not complaining.

With SPS at a low and HIVE at a nice high(ish, but compared to the stable 80 cents we've seen for weeks!) it's a HUGE opportunity to buy in and join the game.

Yes, I could sell my SPS and the crazy thing about that is it would be about the same amount in $ as my first full-time salary when I just finished University... But I won't. The SPS price can only go up from here and I'm still earning almost 50% APR - there's currently no better ROI I can think of, so staking it is.

I expect great things for SPS as it will be used for Governance, but also Land maintenance and entry for big tournaments. Super bullish on the future, I end my writing here. A pure freewrite - but I wanted to share my excitement for reaching this milestone <3

What have you been doing with your SPS airdrop?
