# Visiting Glendronach Distillery
We used Dufftown as our base to explore the Glendronach Distillery - it's the favorite Whisky of my boyfriend and when in Scotland you have to visit at least one distillery, right?
We did a lovely tour led by a Whisky enthusiast - she started to get really excited when she heard we had visited distilleries before, because that meant she could get more in-depth with her story :-) Gotta love a real Whisky nerd!
We made our trip to the distillery even better by filling our own bottle of Whisky from the 'Manager's Cask' - a handpicked cask of Whisky which makes your bottle pretty unique since normally you don't know from which cast exactly the Whisky gets filled from - my boyfriend had to write his name and address in a book and add a number to his bottle.
It's still unopened in our liquor chest at home. Some things age really well.
Just drive - don't try to see a thing
After the visit we went on our way to that day's destination: the village Weem close to the city of Aberfeldy. We had a long day ahead and would drive a lovely route through the Cairngorms National Park. It was recommended to us by a few locals - the B&B owners we had left that morning even said they would do a visit the next day because it was their favorite thing to visit on the weekends!
I always follow up on local recommendations - if those who live in a place still get excited to visit a certain spot it has to be worth it. No guidebook needed.
The first part existed of rain. Rain and rain. At some point we couldn't see a thing and felt it was dangerous. We stopped on the parking spot next to a castle - but didn't even dare to run to the entrance of the castle to wait for the rain to be over.
Visit to Kildrummy Castle Gardens
When the weather cleared a bit we passed a castle and spontaneously decided to visit the lovely gardens. I blame myself for not being the best garden or even nature photographer - the pictures I have of this place are not even beginning to show the gem these gardens are. The little waters, enormous trees and differences in height make it incredibly interesting visually - the castle ruins towering above all the green is a lovely bonus.
[The gardens and the towers are maintained by different funds - you will not be able to visit both with the same ticket. I would definitely recommend the garden though - it's really well maintained and there's clearly a lot of heart put in this place.]
[This is the visual center of the garden. For multiple reasons I was not able to make the best shot here, but please take on that challenge. With the right gear and balancing exercises you will be able to capture the arch in full with its reflection in the water <3]
Cairngorms > Weem
The second part of our drive to Weem existed of miles and miles of pretty roads through a hilly park. The roads were very well maintained - a huge contrast to the roads on the North-Coast 500 - making us feel we were driving twice as fast.
[Blurry trees - speeding!]
[Dark clouds and sun on the hills at the same time. Scottish magic.]
We arrived in Weem, knowing it would be a great base for exploring more of the environment the coming 10 days.
